Dr. Sukkar Answers FAQs About Coolsculpting

CoolSculpting is an advanced new procedure performed at The Clinic for Plastic Surgery in Houston. Dr. Sam Sukkar is pleased to offer the non-invasive solution for those desiring a body contouring treatment with minimal downtime. To help you get a better understanding of what CoolSculpting entails and what you can expect should you undergo the treatment, Dr. Sukkar answers frequently asked questions below.

How does CoolSculpting work?
CoolSculpting is designed to eliminate fat cells to create a more desired body shape through the process of Cryolipolysis®. This involves intense cooling of the target area, which leads to crystallization of the fat cells without harming the surrounding tissue. As a result, the fat cells are gradually destroyed, providing a slightly contoured appearance to the trouble area.

Am I a good candidate for CoolSculpting?
Those who are of a healthy weight but are unhappy with localized areas of stubborn fat that can’t be reduced with diet and exercise typically make good candidates for CoolSculpting. These patients often desire a non-surgical approach to contouring specific areas of fat. It should be noted that CoolSculpting is not a treatment for obesity and is not a substitute for procedures like liposuction.

How do CoolSculpting results compare to liposuction?
Since CoolSculpting is a non-invasive procedure, the results are more subtle and occur more gradually than liposuction. However, patients who are looking for a non-surgical body contouring procedure may find CoolSculpting to be a viable option.

What can I expect following the procedure?
Immediately following your CoolSculpting procedure, the treated fat cells will begin to break down and naturally pass through the body over time. Patients can typically see their results improve over the course of two to four months. After this period, you can undergo additional sessions should you desire further treatment.

The unique hyaluronic acid (HA) formula is the first of its kind to be FDA-approved for the treatment of facial aging in the cheek and midface regionJuvéderm VOLUMA™ XC has numerous advantages for patients 21 years and older who wish to rejuvenate their face. See below for some of the benefits you can experience:

  • RESULTS CAN BE SEEN IMMEDIATELY AFTER TREATMENT.
  • THE PROCEDURE IS MINIMALLY INVASIVE WITH LITTLE TO NO DOWNTIME.
  • THE FACE APPEARS TO BE LIFTED FROM THE INCREASED VOLUME.
  • LINES AND WRINKLES ARE SMOOTHED IN THE AREA.

While most dermal HA fillers have a longevity of six to twelve months, Juvéderm VOLUMA™ XC has the potential to last twice as long, making it a more long-term solution to signs of aging. How Juvederm Voluma XC Compares To Other Dermal Fillers

With so many cosmetic treatment options available these days, it can be difficult to understand which solution is right for you. This uncertainty is common with people interested in dermal fillers, as the injectables tend to be a popular treatment for facial aging, but there are several kinds. At The Clinic for Plastic Surgery and PS Med Spa, we offer a variety of fillers, which includes the advanced Juvéderm VOLUMA™ XC among others, each having its own unique benefits.

Juvéderm VOLUMA™ XC is the first and only injectable with a base of hyaluronic acid (HA) that is FDA-approved to treat moderate to severe lines in the midface. It is used to augment the cheek area to restore volume that has been lost with age. By filling the area, cheek tissue appears to be lifted, which can influence the intensity of nasolabial folds to be reduced in the process. What makes Juvéderm VOLUMA™ XC so unique is its long-lasting results compared to other HA fillers. The highly cross-linked formula causes the injectable to provide results that can last up to two years, while other options may require multiple treatment sessions and touch-ups to maintain the same outcome.

While Juvéderm VOLUMA™ XC has proven to be highly beneficial to correct signs of aging, it is possible that another dermal filler may be more appropriate for your unique goals. Our team also offers Radiesse®, Artefill®, Restylane®, and Perlane® to help patients rejuvenate their facial appearance. We encourage you to schedule a consultation with our office to learn which treatment option has the greatest potential for helping you reach your unique aesthetic goals.

Is Breast Reduction Right For Me?

Not all women interested in breast surgery are looking to increase the size of their breasts. Some women desire to restore sagging or disproportionate breasts that have been affected by pregnancy and breast feeding. Other women have an overabundance of breast tissue and seek to ease neck and back pain while improving the fit of clothing. Breast reduction surgery (or reduction mammoplasty) can often be an excellent option for decreasing the size of your breasts while achieving proportionate results that can enhance your overall appearance.

Houston plastic surgeon, Dr. Sam Sukkar, listens carefully to your aesthetic concerns during the consultation process to ensure you and he are both working toward the same cosmetic goals. Some women who visit us at The Clinic for Plastic Surgery, believe they want a breast reduction, but would actually benefit more from a breast lift. In addition, many of Dr. Sukkar’s patients are interested in combining a breast reduction with a body contouring procedure such as liposuction or a tummy tuck for a more dramatic rejuvenation. Regardless of which approach you select, Dr. Sukkar’s primary goal with any breast reduction is to meet each woman’s unique expectations while providing natural-looking results.

Two Techniques For Gynecomastia Treatment

TWO TECHNIQUES FOR GYNECOMASTIA TREATMENT

Although all men have some glandular breast tissue, some individuals experience an excess or swelling of this tissue. The common condition, known as Gynecomastia, is often caused by a hormone imbalance. Fortunately, gynecomastia is often easily treatable.

At The Clinic for Plastic Surgery, we can help men of all ages achieve a flatter, more sculpted chest through male breast reduction surgery. There are two main ways in which we perform male breast reduction surgery to treat gynecomastia. The first method is a bit less extensive, since the cosmetic concern can often be addressed quickly and simply with liposuction. This technique is also considered to be less invasive, and it is generally most effective when the main cause of enlarged breasts is an excess of fatty tissue.

For patients who have glandular breast tissue that is disproportionate with the rest of the chest and body, a more extensive male breast reduction procedure is often recommended to create the desired look. This technique requires the excision of glandular tissue to reduce the size of the breasts, and it sometimes involves the removal of excess skin. Regardless of which approach is needed, Houston plastic surgeon, Dr. Sam Sukkar, is extremely careful during surgery to minimize the risk of scarring. Because the male chest is often more visible, his goal is to avoid noticeable scarring altogether while achieving a result that appears naturally proportionate and firm.

If you believe you may be experiencing gynecomastia, or if you have any questions about male breast reduction surgery, please contact us today to schedule a consultation with Dr. Sukkar.

3 Common Myths About Tummy Tuck Surgery

3 COMMON MYTHS ABOUT TUMMY TUCK SURGERY

Like many plastic surgery procedures, there are a number of misconceptions that surround tummy tuck surgery. These unrealistic expectations are often a result of unreliable sources, and our board-certified Houston plastic surgeon, Dr. Sam Sukkar, does his best to help patients fully understand the truth of the matter. Below, Dr. Sukkar clarifies three particular myths patients often believe when they go into the tummy tuck procedure:

Myth 1: You will be incapacitated for three to four weeks, not being able to function well.

Dr. Sukkar explains this is not the case at his practice. Patients can expect to feel groggy for the first few days and see some swelling, but many activities can be resumed after the first week. Work can typically be resumed after the first week or two.

Myth 2: The abdomen will be completely flat following surgery.

The human body does not typically have a straight shape, especially for women. Our plastic surgeon stresses to patients that although a tummy tuck can enhance the shape of the abdomen by removing excess skin and fat tissue, there should still be some curve and contrast to the body.

Myth 3: Liposuction cannot be performed along with the tummy tuck surgery.

Dr. Sukkar frequently performs liposuction in his tummy tuck patients to further enhance the treatment area. He explains that liposuction is safe to perform along with the surgery, and it offers additional contouring to the body.

Preventing Complications With Implant Displacement Exercises

PREVENTING COMPLICATIONS WITH IMPLANT DISPLACEMENT EXERCISES

The best way to prevent postoperative complications is to understand what you can do, or refrain from doing, to facilitate a problem-free recovery. For example, a common problem that arises in patients who have recently received breast implants is the condition called capsular contracture. This occurs when scar tissue forms around the implant, often leading to firm, misshapen implants. To help prevent this complication, Dr. Sam Sukkar recommends certain breast augmentation patients practice implant displacement exercises following their surgery.

Patients with smooth, round saline or silicone implants should perform displacement exercises, or gentle massaging of the breasts, starting approximately two weeks following their surgery. Dr. Sukkar explains that massaging the implants helps preserve some of the space around the implants. As a result, the healing process is less likely to cause hardened scar tissue to constrict the implants. Instead, they can move more naturally, rather than being fixed in one position.

While implant displacement exercises can be a productive way to prevent scar tissue from forming, Dr. Sukkar warns that not all patients with breast implants should do them. People with teardrop-shaped or textured implants should not massage their implants, as they are not designed to move, and this can create unnecessary complications. Dr. Sukkar recommends all breast augmentation patients consult with their surgeon before beginning the massage regimen to determine whether it is right for them.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding displacement exercises, or wish to set up a consultation with our experienced Houston plastic surgeon, please don’t hesitate to contact us!
